MARY JO WILLIS
Henderson, TN: Mary Jo Newsom Willis age 93 passed away Saturday morning May 25, 2019 at Oak Hills Behavioral Center in Jackson.
She was born October 28, 1925 in Chester County, the daughter of the late Will and Daisy Penelope Melton Newsom. She attended Chester County High School. She married William “Jake” Willis in 1947. They made their home in Dyersburg for twelve years before moving to Chester County. She traveled alongside her husband in the trucking business for many years. She also was “Grandmother” for students at East Chester Elementary.
Mrs. Willis is survived by a daughter, Kathy Jo Mayfield (Phil) of Henderson and a son, Phillip William Willis of Morris Chapel, TN; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, ”Jake” Willis (2002) and two brothers, J.R. Carroll Newsom and Billy Neal Newsom.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Jimmy Newsom officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue beginning at 11:00 AM Thursday until 1:00 PM Thursday service time.
