Mary Wilna Hughes Timmons, 81, of Whiteville, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Cordova Rehabilitation Nursing Center.
The widow of John Maxwell Timmons, who died March 3, 1990 after 20 years of marriage, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Timmons had owned a dress shop in Whiteville and, at one time, was co-owner of a gin. She was born April 14, 1924 in Lee County, Miss., daughter of the late Robert Excel Hughes and Anna J. Borne Hughes. Mrs. Timmons lived in Whiteville during her marriage and also resided in Somerville and Memphis. She was a member of Whiteville First Baptist Church.
Services were 11 AM Friday, January 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Whiteville with Bill Sorrell officiating. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery near Whiteville. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include nieces, Barbara J. Tucker of Bartlett, Mary Ann Caldwell of Ohio, Shirley Fay Kopp of Wisconsin and Mary Evelyn Barron of Cordova; nephews, Royce A. Barron of Lakeland, Boyce E. Barron of Memphis and three step-grandchildren, John Maxwell Timmons, III of Iowa, Scott Majeski of Chicago, Illinois and Allen Majeski of Chicago, Illinois. In addition to Mr. Timmons, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Otis L. Keller.
