Mary Ruth Thornton, 80, of Walnut, Miss., died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Mississippi Care Center in Corinth, Miss.
The wife of Charlie Ford Thornton, who survives, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Thornton was born February 25, 1926 in Chalybeate, Miss., daughter of the late A. J. and Sarah Elizabeth Willingham Wilbanks. She was a member of Abundant Life Tabernacle in Walnut and had lived around Walnut all of her life.
Services were 3:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2006 at Abundant Life Tabernacle with Bro. James Sims and Bro. Larry McDonald officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery near Chalybeate, Miss. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
In addition to her husband, whom she married August 28, 1943, survivors include four daughters, Shirley Jean “Shingles†Jackson of Middleton, Peggy Joyce “Peg-a-Leg†Rich of Walnut, Miss., Sarrah “Trudy†McDonald and Mary Charlene “DoLittle†Swinford, both of Corinth; three sons, Charlie Wayne “Bub†Thornton of Chalybeate, James Luther Witt “Buttonhole†Thornton of Bolivar and David Ford “Honey Man†Thornton of Walnut; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; one sister, Lucidee Carter of Carrols Corner, Ark. and one brother, Waymon Wilbanks of Walnut. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ella Porterfield and Anna and Ethel Green; four brothers, Captain, Aaron, William and K.C. Wilbanks; one grandson, Martin Wayne Thornton and a great grandson, Dawson Keymon.
