Mary R. Stuart was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 19, 1910 the daughter of the late Richard and Bessie Martin Coppedge.On October 26, 1935 she was united in marriage to Leslie Bertrand "Red" Stuart, who preceded her in death on February 5, 1997. Mrs. Stuart worked as a teacher with the Hardin County Board of Education and retired after approximately 30 years. After retirement, she taught Adult Education. She lived in Savannah, Tennessee from 1947 until 1994. She moved to Hermitage, Tennessee in October of 1994. Mrs. Stuart was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savannah, Tennessee , a member of the Tennessee Education Association and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.She departed this life on March 12, 2007 at her residence in Hermitage, Tennessee at the age of 96 years, 3 months and 21 days.Mrs. Stuart is survived by a daughter, Betty Anne Stuart Alexander of Gallatin, Tennessee; a son, Leslie Stuart of Hermitage, Tennessee; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Elizabeth Lovell and Annie Sue Crain and one brother, Richard Coppedge.
