Mary Helen Nichols of Selmer, Tennessee, was born on July 14, 1925, to the late W. T. and Bertie Elizabeth Pickens Garrett. She was married to the late Duron Nichols who preceded her in death on June 29, 1989. She was retired from Brown Shoe Company with 41 years service. Prior to working for Brown Shoe, she worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory for a period of time.
Miss Helen was a member of Selmer First Baptist Church where she taught the four and five year old Sunday School class for 41 years. She was a longtime member of the WMU and former volunteer with the Loaves and Fishes food pantry of Selmer and McNairy County. She loved God, her church, and her family. She expressed that love through the years in her dedicated service and spirit of volunteerism.
Mrs. Nichols passed from this life on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in her home at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 21 days.
Survivors are her son Steve Nichols and his wife Bonnie of Cleveland, Mississippi; her sister Jessie Ruth Richardson of Selmer; a grandson Jeff Nichols and his wife Deidre of Jackson, Tennessee; a granddaughter Jennifer Maldanado and her husband Alex of Oxford, Mississippi.
