Mary Kelley Harris passed away on September 23, 2022.
She was born on September 30, 1926, to parents Alvin Kelley and Crickett Bailey Kelley,. Mary grew up in the Sweetlips community.
During the 1940’s and early 1950’s, she worked at area garment factories.
Soon after WWII, she married returning Navy veteran John D. Harris, Jr.. In the late 1950’s, Mary and John moved to the Malesus community in Madison County, where they made their home for 45 years.
She was a member of the Malesus Methodist Church, where she and her husband were once active in youth programs.
Soon after retiring as a hairdresser, Mary returned to Henderson with John to spend their final years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and all of her siblings: Edna Mitchell, Era Mae Talbert, Ora Lee Barham, Rachel Seeley, Joe Kelley and James Kelley.
She is survived by a son, John Dennis Harris.
Her life, death and 96th birthday will be celebrated by family and friends with Graveside Services at Sweetlips Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 29th, with Jerry McCorkle officiating.
