She was born and reared on the Benson farm near Reagan, the daughter of the late Evans V. and Lena Tidwell Benson. She went to school at Centerpoint and Milledgeville. She was married to James M. Cherry in 1945. They made their home in Memphis, where she worked in light bulb production at the General Electric Lamp Plant. She retired in 1974 and continued to live in Memphis until 21/2 years ago, when she moved to Adamsville Convalescent Home. Mrs. Cherry was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church.She is survived by a son, Jimmy Don Cherry of Reagan; four brothers, J. W. Benson of Reagan, Johnny Benson of Reagan, David Benson of Dothan, AL and Jerry Benson of Reagan; five sisters, Olidean Kennedy of Henderson, Mayrene Essary of Jackson, Marie Benson of Reagan, Zula Bailey of Henderson and Mildred Bivens of Sardis; five grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Cherry in 1970; a son, Danny G. Cherry in 2002 and also five brothers, Frank Benson, Warren Benson, D.C. Benson, Cecil Smith and Raymond Smith.
