Jean Mayfield

JEAN MAYFIELD

Henderson, TN: Martha Sue “Jean” Mayfield, age 93 passed away August 4, 2023, at her home.

She was born in Memphis and grew up in the Hickory Corner and Harmony Communities of Chester County. She was raised by her grandparents, James Calvin and Mattie Emmalyne Barton Dees. She attended Chester County Schools. She married Homer Renard Mayfield in 1944 and they made their home in the Harmony Community where Homer did truck patching and carpenter work. Jean worked at Salant and Salant, Oakley Fashion, and in the fabric department at Walmart until she retired.

Jean enjoyed gardening, cooking, and working crossword puzzles. She continued to sew after her retirement. She enjoyed taking her grand girls fishing. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and cooking for the entire bunch.

She was a member of the Finger Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Mayfield of 64 years; two sons, Harold R. Mayfield and Rayford Mayfield; daughter-in-law, Kay Mayfield; and brother, Milton Dees.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Brandi Whitman and Jenna Cupples (Ben); and five great grandchildren, Madalynn, Jack, and Lillie Claire Whitman, Kase and Cheston Cupples; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Mayfield.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday August 8, 2023, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Tom Childers officiating. Burial will follow at Chester County Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
