Marietta Ross Newman (Tootsie), 83, of Lago Vista, Texas, passed away on May 7, 2013. She was born on November 1, 1929, in Savannah, Tennessee, to Ted Cecil and Delia Irene (Harrison) Ross.



Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Alton Newman; son, Ronald Alton Newman; and brother, Ted Hardin Ross.



She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Ann Newman Kennedy and husband Thomas of Lago Vista; grandchildren, Natalie Ann Walton and husband Aaron; Lindsey Blaschke; Daniel Ross Newman and wife Napasara Chompoo-Newman; James Matthew Newman; great grandson, Caden Joel Walton; sister, Rebecca Ann Sibley and husband Wallace; brother, James David (Jimmy) Ross and wife Catherine; and many nieces and nephews.



Marietta married James Alton on September 30, 1947,and they moved to Texas City, Texas. She volunteered for the "Pink Ladies" at the local hospital; served on many school committees for her children including being a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader. After her children were grown, she worked as a salesperson and decorator for Goodbar’s Interior Design. She loved to sing and loved music. She often wrote poems, and was an avid reader. She had a phenomenal memory for birthdays and anniversaries. Additionally, she always kept her immediate family updated on the extended family situations. Marietta was a great storyteller with a talent for details like her brother, Teddy. She devoted her life to her family and friends.



Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Beck Funeral Home, Cedar Park, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Shackelford Funeral Home, Savannah, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Shackelford Funeral Home, Savannah, Tennessee. Interment will immediately follow in Mount Herman Cemetery, Savannah, Tennessee.
