Mother Margie Beatrice Smith Fason was born February 2, 1910 in Grand Junction, Tennessee to the late Mary Tucker Gillum Smith and Thomas Smith. She spent her entire life in Shelby, Fayette, and Hardeman counties in Tennessee. She attended school in Shelby County where she graduated from Melrose High School, Memphis, TN. After a semester of college, her father passed away and she returned to Hardeman county with her mother and two brothers to help support the family.
In Hardeman County she met her mate for life Henry Fason. The couple was joined in holy matrimony on October 17, 1931. To this Union four children were born. Her husband and son, Thomas H. preceded her in death.
Church became an integral part of her life at an early age and she united with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Mother Board, Missionary Society, Choir, Youth ministry, and was the Church Treasurer for more than 50 years. She was a faithful member who truly loved God and her church and always tried to walk that walk and taught her children and family that your life is a gift from God: what you make of it is your gift to God.
Margie (Murr) was known throughout the county and community as a person to help family members, friends, and neighbors. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary - Post # 253 where she worked as a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Western Mental Health Institute and other programs. Her humble service earned her many awards and recognitions.
She leaves a devoted caring and loving grandson Kenny Boy James, (caretaker) who was with her until her demise, also her daughter Mary James, and special son-in-law, Lawrence James, her (Big Buddy). Children Johnnie Fason (Yvonne) Atlanta. Ga., Margie Turner, Chicago, Ill., Mary James (Lawrence) Nashville. TN.. daughter-in-law, Irene Fason, New Mexico.
She will be fondly remembered by a wealth of other family members and acquaintances including grandchildren, great-grand children, nephews, nieces, great-great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, as well as a host of church members, friends and neighbors including special friends, Benonie Harris, Marilyn Woody, The Cowan family, Judy McQueen (Ricky), Mimi Gresham (John), Bill Cowan (Sally), Leon Sullivan, Bobby Pugh, Special Nephews Percy Mckinnie (Juanita) and Lysanders Fason (Borice). The Fryer Family. and Willie Sue Poplar.
She never forgot her children and grandchildren' s birthdays by providing them with her own special recipes of pecan, raisin, and oatmeal cookies.
