Margaret Marie Pickens Franks Perry was born on Rogers Creek in Hardin County, Tennessee on October 28, 1935. She was delivered by midwife Nan Franks who arrived by a buckboard wagon. She was the daughter of Buck B. and Lennie Wilkerson Pickens.
Margaret, called Kate by many, had fond memories of her years at White's Elementary School. She was employed at Brown Shoe Company for 33 years. She loved her work family and made lifelong friends. She enjoyed working on election day at the polling stations and attending home demonstration club meetings.
On March 12, 1957, she married Lloyd H. Franks who preceded her in death on July 19, 2003. On September 29, 2007, she married Jessie W. Perry who also preceded her in death on January 26, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Franks; granddaughter, Molly Len Franks; and the light of her life, her great grandson, Gavin Koehler.
Aunt Kate, as many called her, was well known for her strawberry and coconut cakes. She loved to cook and was an expert gardener. Taking walks with her boy Gavin and picking up rocks was a favorite pastime for her.
She was a member of Cherrys Chapel Church.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her father, Buck B. Pickens; mother, Lennie Pickens; and siblings, Nannie Sue Copeland, William Pickens, Bill Pickens, Estelle Conner, Thelma Hemby, and Etta Morris. Surviving siblings are Grady "Gube" Pickens and Nancy Webb.
