Margaret Roberts Martin, 94, of Taylor, TX, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at her residence.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 pm, Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Shackelford Funeral Home, Collinwood, TN. Services will be at 1 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, Collinwood, TN. Burial will be in McGlamery Cemtery, Collinwood, with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County directing.
Margaret was born June 9, 1914 in Clifton, TN to the late George Washington Roberts and Ida Mae Riley Roberts. She graduated from Frank Hughes School in Clifton, TN in 1933 and Falls Business College in Nashville, TN in 1935. She married Walter Henry Martin on September 21, 1940 in Panama Canal Zone, where they lived for 6 years while Walter worked on the locks for the Panama Canal and she worked in an administrative capacity for the U. S. Government. Margaret was a life time member of the Church of Christ, most recently the Hwy 95 Church in Taylor, TX. She was also a life time member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers, expecially roses. She also loved to sew and read, especially her Bible. Margart was a quiet and gentle spirit, she loved God and set a wonderful example for her children and those around her.
Other than her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Martin in 1981; brothers, James Riley Roberts and John Nathan Roberts; sister-in-law, Melle Roberts; and grandson, Todd Robert Haisler.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Haisler and husband, Robert of Thrall, TX; son, Thomas George Martin and wife, Kathryn of Thrall, TX; sister, Dorothy R. Dorsey of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law, Rhea Roberts of Clifton, TN; grandchildren, Charles T. Haisler and wife, Lori of Woodway, TX, Gare E. Haisler of Georgetown, TX, Daniel Upshaw (serving in Iraq) and wife, Arianna, Walter Martin of Temple, TX, Lisa Ivenor and husband, Aaron of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandchildren, Christina Haisler and fiance', Dr. Fuad Hadadin of St. Joseph, MO, Andrew and JNoshua Upshaw of Fayetteville, NC, and Marisol Upshaw of Belen, NM; her first great-great-grandchild, Madelyn Christine, was born August 20, 2008 and Margaret was able to hold her in her arms.
