Margaret Bingham

March 20, 1917 — December 3, 2008

Jacks Creek, TN: Margaret Lou Wright Bingham, age 91, died December 3, 2008 at Southern Oaks Assisted Living.



She was born and reared in Chester County, the daughter of the late Ernest Claude and Linnie Hannah Bain Wright. She graduated Chester County High School in 1935, and also Freed Hardeman College and Bethel College in McKenzie. She was married to Curtis Ray Bingham in 1939 and they made their home at Jacks Creek.



Mrs. Bingham was employed by the Chester County School System for 52 years, starting her career in a one room school at Pine Springs with 45 students in grades one through eight. She has served as teacher, principal, attendance supervisor, director of federal projects, and supervisor of instruction for the Chester County system retiring in 1997.



She was a member of the Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary organization for women educators. She had served as secretary of Theta Chapter, president of the chapter and had served on numerous committees on the local and state level.



Mrs. Bingham had served as secretary of Area 14 District Principals and Supervisors Study Council; Right to Read Organization; Business Women’s Association; Drug Task Force in Chester County; Chester County Teacher’s Association; and Chester County Library Board.



Mrs. Bingham was quoted in the May 29, 1997 issue of The Independent, “I’ve taught doctors, lawyers, postmasters, teachers, beauticians, secretaries, carpenters, business professionals, a university vice-president, and a superintendent of schools,” she said, “It’s been a full career.”



Mrs. Bingham was a member of the Jacks Creek Church of Christ.



She is survived by a son, Larry Bingham and wife Gwen of Jacks Creek; two daughters, Patricia Tucker and husband Milton of Jacks Creek and Janice Bingham of Searcy, AR; three grandchildren, John Bingham, Rayla Black and Charles Tucker and six great grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Ray Bingham in 1987,

a granddaughter, Regina Bingham and a brother, C.T. Wright.
