Mardell Teague Summers was born August 5, 1923 in Ramer, Tennessee the daughter of the late Otto and Lula Mae Johnson Teague.
She was united in marriage to Lonnie Summers on December 23, 1939. Mr. Summers preceded her in death on July 5, 1995 after 55 years of marriage.
Mrs. Summers, along with her late husband Lonnie, founded Summers Grocery in Ramer in August of 1962. She was a loving homemaker who made her family the center of her affections and attention. Mrs. Summers was a member of the Ramer Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday School. To many, she was known as "Rip;" to her grandchildren, she was simply "granny," and her great-grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "G.G."
Mrs. Summers departed this life on November 25, 2010 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 3 Months, 20 Days. She is survived by two sons, Kendall Summers and wife Pam and Ronald Summers and wife Gladys, all of Ramer, TN; four grandchildren: Danna Young and husband James of Ramer, TN, Tarsha Basham and husband Kevin of Jackson, TN, Bridgett Maness and husband Joey of Selmer, TN, Nikki Farmer and husband Paul of Franklin, TN; two step-grandchildren: Jason Stack and wife Christina of Lexington, TN and Lisa Isley and husband Daniel of Spring Hill, TN; fifteen great-grandchildren: Summer Basham, Libby Basham, Becca Basham, Reid Basham, Lane Young, Logan Young, Caroline Maness, Carly Maness, Cadey Maness, Samuel Farmer, Zoe Farmer, Caitlyn Stack, Alex Stack, Emma Isley, and Jackson Isley; two sisters-in-law, Edith Cardwell of Ramer, TN and Jean Teague of Ramer, TN; a niece, Candy Nixon of Counce, TN; a great-niece, Hayley Hilburn of Ramer, TN; a great-nephew, Scott Hilburn of Nashville, TN; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by a brother, Lamar Teague, who was one of the oldest members of Ramer Baptist Church.
