Mamie D. Carter, 98, of Jackson, died Thursday, January 20 at
NHC Heathcare in Milan.
The widow of Clyde William Carter, who died Sept. 4, 1974, she
was a homemaker. Mrs. Carter was born December 25, 1906 in
Rogers Springs, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Durham and
Sarah Jane Ward Durham. She lived in Saulsbury during her early
life, made her home in Jackson in 1939 and was a member of
Friendship Missionary Church in Jackson.
Services were 2 pm Sunday, January 23 at Shackelford's Bolivar
chapel with Bruce Pigue officiating. Burial was in Saulsbury
Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Sanders of Gleason; three
sons, Joseph Leon Carter, Clyde Nathaniel Carter and Charles
Jefferson Carter, all of Humboldt; two brothers, Charlie Durham
of Hickory Valley and Roland Durham of Gum Flat, Tenn.; 10
grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 18 great, great
grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in
death by one brother, Emmett Durham and three sisters, Irene
Crenshaw, Mae Hall and Effie Pace.
