Mackie (Popa) Baker, 64, of Selmer, departed this life Sunday morning, July 17, 2016 at his home.
He was born April 1, 1952, in the Searles Community to the late Roy Oneal Baker and Dessie Evelyn Grantham Baker, living most of his life here and the last 11 years in Selmer. He worked as a 'shade-tree' mechanic and also in the sawmill industry. He enjoyed motorcycles and listening to Kenny Chesney music, talking and telling old stories and giving the grandchildren his 'advanced advice'. He will be remembered for his love of outdoor activities, his love for his family and friends, and how he cherished and showed his love and affection for his best friend and caretaker. He was a Baptist in faith.
Survivors include a brother, Jimmy Baker (Stephanie) of Middleton; three sisters, Cathy Stack (Hollis) of Saltillo , Mary Foster (Phil) of Chewalla; and Rose Richie of Bolivar two sister in laws, Margie Baker and Frances Crouse, both of Hornsby; a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly; his loving companion and best friend, Debbie Bass; her sons, Chris (Deana) Blackwell of Bethel Springs and Anthony (Ashley) Bass of Middleton; and grandchildren, Kelsy (John) Maness, Dustin Blackwell, Will Bass and Alissa Bass. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Tommy, J.W. and Roy Baker; a sister, Ruby Baker; a nephew, Rickey "Porkchop" Young; a niece, Sherry Young; and a great nephew, Matthew Young. The family requests memorial donations in his name be made to the Gideons International.
