Mrs. Childress passed away Wednesday Night at Alive Hospice in Madison, TN.
A native of Somerville, she lived most of her life in Bolivar. Her parents were the late Thomas Leonidas "Lonnie" Ferguson and Maude Winifred Parks Ferguson. She had 4 sisters and a brother, all of whom preceded her death: Elizabeth Chapleau, Lois Malone, Laura Heide, Eleanor Vaught and Thomas Edward Ferguson.
On August 22, 1941, she married Mr. Jack Childress and they were married for 53 years before his death on May 31, 1995. Mrs. Childress was a graduate of Fayette County High School, Class of 1939. She was primarily a homemaker, but she also had been a hairdresser and a secretary for the Agricultural Extension Office. She was a member of the Bolivar First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class. In her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, reading, flowers, gardening, both crossword and jigsaw puzzles and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Felicia Duncan of Mt. Juliet, TN; her daughter-in-law, Karen Childress of Bolivar; 6 grandchildren, Brad (Tammy) Duncan of Mt. Juliet, DeAna Duncan of Mt. Juliet, Hallee and Natalie Childress of Bolivar, Amy Nance of Memphis and Blake Childress of Miami, FL; 5 great-grandchildren, Morgan (Brian) O'Neill and Taylor Johnson, both of Mt. Juliet, Madelynn Duncan of Goodlettsville, Henry and Charlie Elwell of Mt. Juliet; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Breklyn and Tynleigh Johnson of Mt. Juliet; brother-in-law, Kenneth Vaught of Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, parents and siblings, Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by 2 sons, Brian and Robert Lynn Childress; and a granddaughter, Ashley Childress.
