Lorraine Sasser

February 8, 1918 — July 19, 2008

Mrs. Sasser passed away Saturday night at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital Transitional Care.



The widow of Walter Bell Sasser, Jr., who died on April 16, 1969, she was a school teacher with Hardeman County Schools for many years. She was born to Murley Thomas Bishop and Maggie Bass Bishop, both of whom preceded her in death and lived all of her life here. A graduate of Bolivar Central High School, she received her BA in Music from the University of Memphis and was a gifted pianist.



Survivors include seven children and their spouses, Annette Ashley and Carl Schmidt of Santa Barbara, Calif., Walter B. Sasser, III of Destin, Fla., Thomas L. and Retta Sasser of Bolivar, Joel D. Sasser of Shepherd, Tex., Charles E. Sasser and Laura Teague of Baton Rouge, La., Rebecca S. Sasser of Jackson, Anita and Duane Campbell of Sammamish, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Schmidt; a sister, Roberta Bishop; and a brother, Murley Thomas Bishop, Jr.
