Mrs. Asa Lorraine Laney, 99, of Cloverport, departed this life on Saturday morning, April 19, 2025, at her home.
Born in Chester County, she was the daughter of the late Linzie Dick and Leora Vestal Maness Tedford. On September 9, 1940, she was married to Mr. Wallace Andrew Laney and, he passed away on July 9, 2014, following over 73 years of marriage. Additionally, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Sybil Elrod, Billy Wayne, L. D., Jr., Max Ray, Horace Glenn, David Ralph, Roger Elmo, Georgia Henderson, Joe Tedford, Howard Tedford and Ruth Hearn; sons-in-law, Ralph Nowell and Shane Jones; and grandparents, Cornelius and Georgia Ann Patterson, Dave and Ardella Wade.
She leaves behind her loving family which includes two daughters, Dorothy Laney Nowell of Counce, TN and Peggy Laney McKinney of Lakeland, TN; one son, Joe Edd Laney (Julie) of Toone, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Laney lived a long and beautiful life as wife, mother and friend to many. She loved people and was always involved in some form of ministry to many who needed love and service.
Mamaw, as she was fondly known to family and friends, always found time to make every family member feel loved and was special to her.
She was a member of Cloverport Baptist Church. Church activities were a priority all of her adult life - from teaching to cleaning - she was always ready to serve and help. Church dinners were a special occasion for her as she spent many hours preparing several delicious dishes plus her special caramel pies. Jesus, family and people were the focus of her long life.
She was gifted in many crafts. For many years, she loved to paint and created beautiful pictures for many family members so they would have a special reminder of her love for them.
As her children, we are so blessed to call her mother and know, no matter what, her love was unconditional. She will be terribly missed but has finally reached the eternal home she has been longing for.
She is healed, happy and, best of all, face-to-face with Jesus and all of those who have gone before her. We praise our Lord for the gift of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Memorials may be sent to the Cloverport Baptist Church, 5795 Hwy 138, Toone, TN 38381, or the Church Cemetery.
