Henderson: Virgie Loraine Melton Orr, age 95, died August 24, 2008 at Chester County Healthcare.
She was born and reared in Chester County, the daughter of the late Luther Lee and Pairlee Newsom Melton. She graduated Chester County High School in 1931 and was married to Russell Orr in 1932. Mr. Orr served as City Engineer of Henderson for 31 years. Mr. Orr died in 1979. Mrs. Orr was very active in the First Baptist Church, having taught the Euzelian Sunday School class for many years. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star having served in many of its offices including Worthy Matron in 1963.
She is survived by three daughters; Jo Anne Garland Cupples (Ural) of Henderson, Sue Dell Rodgers (Edwin) of Perry, GA and Betty Jane Stewart Hardin (Manley) of Henderson; nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Orr in 1979, an infant daughter Shirley Pauline Orr in 1938, and two brothers, Carl Melton in 1998 and Ray Melton in 1992.
