LOIS SMITH RHODES
Henderson, TN: Lois Nelia Smith Rhodes age 94, passed away Saturday evening, January 29, 2022 at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 31, 1927 in Chester County, the daughter of the late John Terry and Evie Mae Swanner Smith. She went to school in Chester County and graduated from Chester County High School in 1945. She went to Freed Hardeman College for two years earning an AA in Business, in 1947. She married Theo Norman Rhodes of the Huron Community of Chester County in 1948. They made their home in Henderson. She worked at Freed Hardeman College in the Business Department for N.B. Hardeman and C.P. Roland for several years and later worked in the Bible Department for Dr. Thomas Warren and Dr. William Woodson.

She loved gardening, raising flowers and vegetables, crocheting and embroidering.

She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, Freed Hardeman Associates and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a long time member of the Henderson Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she was a caregiver for several members of the family.

Mrs. Rhodes is survived by a daughter, Teresa Rhodes Bain (Joe Mike) of Calera, AL; four grandchildren, Kelly Rhodes Cooper (Chad Lipford), Norman Rhodes (Kasey), Leanne Bain Lewis (Chris) and Justin Bain, and five great grandchildren, Joey Russell (Katie Lowrance), Kameron Cooper, Payton Lewis, Nash Rhodes and Chevy Lipford; and one great-great grandson, Easton Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Theo Rhodes, one son Trent Rhodes and three brothers, Terry Lamoins Smith, Lloyd Smith and Donald Swanner Smith, who died in the tornado in 1952.

Due to Covid concerns, only a Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Henderson City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Freed-Hardeman University or to the Henderson Church of Christ, both in Henderson, TN.
