Mrs. Lillian Mae Mathis Summers was born May 28, 1927 in Waynesboro, TN to the union of the late David Leroy and Duffie Hickerson Mathis. Mrs. Summers worked for the Hohenwald Shoe Factory, Speedway Drugstore, Stephens Drugstore and the Rugby Pike Assembly of God Daycare in Memphis, TN. She was united in marriage to David Reece Summers on December 2, 1950. Mr. Summers preceded her in death in July 29, 2004.
She was a member of the Waynesboro Church of God, Topsy Church of Christ, and the Republican Ladies. Over the years, Mrs. Summers lived in Waynesboro in the Topsy Community, Kerrville, TN, Memphis, TN and Eads, TN. She will be remembered forever by her smile that could light a whole room and being a loving Mom, Grandma, G.G. and strong Christian that always maintained her sweet disposition and grace. Mrs. Summers departed this life on December 23, 2019 in Columbia, Tennessee making her stay in this life some 92 Years, 6 Months and 25 Days.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Halme of Glen Burnie, MD; two grandchildren, Victoria Renee' Halme Lazarus of Franklin, TN, Michelle Denee' Halme Boyer of Prince Fredrick, MD; five great grandchildren, C.J. Boyer, Jessica M. Boyer, Brianna N. Boyer, Braxton Lazarus, and Nicholas Lazarus. Mrs. Summers is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Bertha Mathis of Drummond, TN and Maureen Whitehorn of Bartlett, TN.
In addition to her husband of 53 years and parents, Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by a son-in-law Victor Patin Halme and ten brothers and sisters, Oscar Leroy Mathis, Pauline Pearl Mathis Dugger, Fred Allen Mathis, Emma Mae Mathis, Perry Mathis, J.B. Mathis, Lillie Mae Mathis Smith, Floyd Mathis, Bertie Irene Mathis, and Bernice E. Mathis.
Services will be held on December 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Ronnie Pope officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, Tennessee.
