Lessie Avril "Granny" Armstrong, 94, of Medon, died Friday morning, March 24, 2006 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The widow of Bolivar Chief of Police Harold Armstrong, who died May 21, 1995, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Armstrong was born October 10, 1911 in Hardeman County, daughter of the late William Monroe Dulin and Roxie Anna Armstrong Dulin and lived here all of her life. She loved to garden and loved the outdoors. She was a member of New Union Baptist Church, coordinated food for funerals and was treasurer of the Sunday School classes.
Funeral services were 1:30 PM, Monday, March 27, 2006 at New Union Baptist Church with Gene Stafford, Brad Bruhn and Danny Moss officiating. Burial was in New Union Cemetery near Medon. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Faye Warner of Dyersburg and Nancy Hammons of Medon; six grandchildren, Donald M. Williams of Murfreesboro, Marcia Van Sant of Dyersburg, Donna Allen of Sikeston, MO, Karen Blalack of Gulfport, MS, Cynthia Grabowski of Jackson and Lynn Andrew Warner, III of Cal.; four step-grandchildren, Dean Hammons of Bradenton, FL, Brent Hammons of Sebring, FL, Brian Hammons of Medon and Bradley Hammons of Olive Branch, MS; 14 great grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, W. C. Dulin.
