Mr. Carter passed away Thursday morning at Pine Meadows HealthCare in Bolivar.
The husband of Bobbie Leathers Carter, who survives, he worked for Armira/International Shoe Company for 35 years. Mr. Carter was born February 13, 1921 in Medon to the late William Elex Carter and Hattie Ethel King Carter and lived most of his life in Hardeman County and for a while in Ohio. He attended Big Springs, Toone and Medon Schools and served as a Reconnaissance Sergeant in the US Army in World War 2 in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart and 5 Bronze Stars. Mr. Carter was a member of Toone Baptist Church and a Mason.
In addition to his wife, whom he married December 24, 1948, he is survived by a daughter, Mona Jacobs; two sons, Tony Carter and Ricky Carter, all of Toone; two sisters, Jessie Pearl Frye of Jackson and Opal Louise LeCroix of Shelbyville; a brother, Billy Ray Carter of Medon; 5 grandchildren, Josh Carter, Cody Carter, Brandy Warr, Justin Carter, Shane Malone; and 5 step-grandchildren, Patricia Austin, Mack Hardwick, Jessie McKee, Jennie McKee, Pam Baker; and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ossie Ruth Davis, Linnie May Cleek, Graple Hampton; and two brothers, Raymond Carter and Hoyt Carter.
