Leonard Carey "Dude" Leathers, 77, of Bolivar, died Sunday,
February 20 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East.
The husband of Phyllis Jean Lax Leathers, who survives, he was a
Procurement Officer at Western Mental Health Institute for 15
years. Mr. Leathers was born June 25, 1927 in Hardeman County,
son of the late William Floyd Leathers and Mary Lorraine Harrell
Leathers and lived here all of his life. He served in the Army Air
Corp and was a member of the VFW and Bolivar First Baptist
Church.
Services were 10 AM Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Shackelford's
chapel in Bolivar with Dr. Ernest E. James, Jack Carver and David
Cooper officiating. Burial was in Bolivar Memorial Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, whom he married October 22, 1948, survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jean Leathers Kemp and David O. Kemp of Dallas, Tex.; one son and his wife, Gary Lynn Leathers and Debbie Stack of Bolivar; two sisters, Peggy Henry of Bolivar and Elizabeth DeAngelis of Memphis; three brothers, Ned Leathers of Toone, Kirby Leathers of Atlanta, GA and Bill Leathers of Memphis; four grandchildren, Emily Rebecca Kemp and Keri Danielle Bishop, both of Dallas, Howard Davis Kemp, II of Ft. Collins, CO, Matthew Tyler McKee of Bolivar and one great grandchild, Landon Bryce Sepeda. He was preceded in death by one grandaughter, Laura Elizabeth Kemp Alvarado and one brother, William Floyd Leathers, Jr.
