Lavoy Edwin Phillips was born in Adamsville, Tennessee on August 14, 1922 the son of the late Dave and Celia Jones Phillips.On April 26, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mildred Raleigh, who survives.Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force 29th Bomber Squadron. His theater of operations included Air Offensive Japan and Western Pacific-Guam. Mr. Phillips earned a WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and a Good Conduct Medal for his services in the Army Air Force. In addition to his military services Mr. Phillips earned his Bachelor Degree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, gaining him employment at Commercial Credit and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.(FDIC), where he retired as a Bank Examiner. In addition to Adamsville, Mr. Phillips had lived in Washington, DC, Sikeston, Missouri, Knoxville, Tennessee, Atlanta, Georgia, Savannah, Tennessee, and Ocala, Florida. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Knoxville, Tennessee and College Road Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida. Mr. Phillips departed this life on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in Ocala, Florida at the age of 85 years, 9 months, 20 days.In addition to his wife, Mildred, Mr. Phillips is survived by three nieces, Joan Hassa, Brenda Galloway both of Memphis, Tennessee, Gail Jolly of Eldorado, Illinois.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Ray Phillips, Dave L. Phillips; one sister, Addye Lee Phillips Young.
