Lavera Hanks
Was born on August 20, 1929 in Newbern, Tennessee the daughter of the late Thomas Austin and Ninnie Owen Childress.
On July 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to John C. Hanks, Sr., who survives.
Mrs. Hanks was a member of Olive Hill Baptist Church and was employed as a door-greeter at Wal-Mart.
She departed this life on March 1, 2006 at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 9 days.
Mrs. Hanks is survived by her husband, John C. Hanks, Sr. of Olive Hill, Tennessee;
2 sons: John C. Hanks, Jr. of Savannah and Donald L. Hanks of Memphis, Tennessee;
2 daughters: Joyce Ann Hanks of Memphis and Judith D. Hanks of Olive Hill;
7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;
2 sisters: Ester Combs of Newbern, Tennessee and Carolyn Cowan of Three Points, Tennessee and one brother, Paul Childress of Trenton, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Alma Jean Strickland and Letha D. Curtis and one brother, Gene Childress.
