She was born and reared in Portland, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Marvin Vester and Susie Martha Dillahay Claiborne. She went to school in Portland, Tennessee and graduated from Portland High school in 1953. She married Chester Hill of Butler Missouri in 1957 and they made their home in Butler for about a year, then Mr. Hill joined the U.S. Army and they lived in several states. Laura was a very efficient secretary for many businesses that she worked for over the years. They moved to Memphis in 1968 and then they moved to Medon, Tennessee in 1993. Laura and Chester worked in Henderson at the West Tennessee Children’s Home as house parents. Laura work there until 2000 when she became disable. She loved to read and also loved to sew and cross stitch. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband Chester Hill of Medon, Tennessee and one son Paul Wayne Hill of Tampa, Florida, five brothers Edgar Claiborne and wife Cathy of Florida, Winford Claiborne of Tennessee, Charlie Claiborne and wife Pauline of Nevada, Lucien Claiborne and wife Ellen of Georgia and Garvin Claiborne and wife Beverly of Tennessee. Two sisters Eathel Currey of Tennessee and Wilma Hill and husband Ervin of Missouri.
Four grandchildren, Kristy Shipman, and Ericka Hill, Drew Hill, Kevin Hill. One great grandchild Katelyn Shipman.
She was preceded in death by one son Edwin Andrew Hill in 2007, three brothers William, Douglas, and Raymond Claiborne and one sister Nadine Claiborne.
