Larry Baker departed this life on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 11 days. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, on February 8, 1939, the son of the late Voyd Hancel and Velma Rhea Kennedy Baker. On January 23, 1974, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Mitchell, who survives.
Larry was a lifelong Hardin Countian and a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church. He served honorably in the National Guard. In 1969, he went to work with his father at Baker & Baker Surveyors and continued to work there part time while he worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Larry was employed with the Department of Transportation for 23 years and was Chief Inspector on Tennessee River Bridges in Savannah, Tennessee. He enjoyed yard work and gardening, and especially loved his grandchildren and doing whatever they wanted to do.
Larry Baker is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Mary Ellen Baker of Savannah, Tennessee; his children, Larry Glen Baker, Jr. and his wife Lindy, Stanley G. Franks, and Cherry Lynn Sullivan and her husband Jack, all of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jackie Lynn Sullivan, Cody R. Franks, Cory R. Franks, Colton R. Franks, Kennedy Lynn Baker, and Lyddie Beth Baker; and great grandchildren, Reesi Loporto, Ella Grace Franks, Eliza Jane Franks, Grayson Whitlow Franks, and Hooper Gordon Franks.
