Mrs. Harris was born and reared in the Mifflin Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late Marion H. and Irene Johnson Vestal. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1946 and was married to Van David Harris that same year. They made their home at Beech Bluff and then the Luray Community most of their married life.
She was a member of the Beech Bluff United Methodist Church and Past President of the Jackson District of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Tennessee Rose Society were she had served as State President. She was also a member of the American Rose Society and the Golden Circle Rose Society were she had served as an officer, Rose Judge, Consulting Rosarian and received The Bronze Rose Award in 1999. She was also a member of the West Tennessee Daylily Society of whom they also honored her in 1999.
She was a member of the Chester County Agricultural Committee and the Extension Homemakers where she had served as a local officer as well as a state officer.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Van David Harris of Luray, a son Hugh David Harris of Luray and two daughters; Nell Susanne Sunshine of Bath Springs, TN and Katherine Camille Stevenson of Newark Delaware. She was preceded in death by a son Marion Ray Harris in 1981. She has eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren and was preceded in death by a grandchild, Tammy James.
She has a sister Doris Lovell of Jackson and a brother Roger Vestal of Texas and was preceded in death by two brothers; Jerry Lee Vestal (two weeks ago) and Gerald Vestal in 1951.
