J. W. PATTERSON

Henderson, TN: J. W. Patterson age 95, passed away April 21, 2025, at his home.

He was born September 23, 1929, in the Hickory Corner Community of Chester County, the son of the late Osceola and Effie Garner Patterson. He attended Chester County Schools. He worked at U-Totem Grocery in Henderson and married Tommye Jean Morris in 1954. They made their home in and around Henderson. He and Guy Walker owned and operated P and W Grocery at Jacks Creek. He later owned and operated Patterson’s Grocery on main street from 1969 until mid-80’s. Tommye Jean was the stores bookkeeper.

After his retirement from the grocery business, he worked at Four Seasons, he and his brother, Tommy Larry operated a car lot at Main and Church Street, and they also operated a fruit & vegetable business.

He had a green thumb, enjoyed being outside and could grow anything.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Patterson is survived by a daughter, Patti Pickler (Jeff) of Henderson, two grandchildren, Emilee Reid and Betsy Riley, seven great grandchildren, Emerson Cox, Ellis Cox, Eliza Cox, Jaxon Riley, Jude Riley, Graham Reid and Lewis Reid, a brother, Hugh Allan Patterson of Peoria, IL and two sisters, Lila Thomas of Peoria, IL and Nancy Durrance of Selmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Tommye Jean Patterson, four brothers, Rubin Patterson, Osceola ‘Pat’ Patterson, Jr., Wallace Patterson and Tommy Larry Patterson and two sisters, Leon Kernodle and Blonnie Keathley.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday, April 24th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with David Hawley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday.
