GEORGE NEWMAN, JR. (JUNIOR)

Henderson, TN: George Newman, Jr. age 93 passed away March 5, 2025, at Henderson Health & Rehab.

He was Born May 19, 1931, in the Old Friendship Community of Chester County to George A. Newman and Gladys M. Akin Newman. He attended schools in Chester County.

Being the oldest son and living in the country he had to begin working at a very young age to help the family. He helped his dad with farming, using mules to work the ground, and also worked with the neighbors at their sawmill. He left home to go to work for the railroad.

He landed in South Bend, IN where he worked various jobs, including truck driving and service station mechanic, for many years, before returning to Chester County in the late 1970’s. He pumped many gallons of gas and made many friends at full-service stations in South Bend and Henderson.

He eventually married his childhood sweetheart, Ruby Parker Lewis.

He loved God, his family, his country, his cars and his country music. He was an avid NASCAR fan, rooting for the likes of Darrell Waltrip, throughout his career and most recently Joey Logano.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Ruby), a brother (Billy Faye Newman) and a sister (Joy Newman Oliver).

He is survived by five daughters, Elaine Meixner (Ron) of New Jersey, Georgia Davis of Mercer, TN, Susie Newman and Patricia Coley of Toone, TN. and Debbie Newman of South Bend, IN, a sister, Joyce Newman Beshires and a brother, Guy Newman (Sherry) of Henderson, along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Ronnie Geary officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time Friday.
