Mr. Julian Arthur “Jack” Cooper, age 83 of Whiteville, passed from this life Friday morning, March 27, 2009 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.He was born January 12, 1926 to the late Alexander W. and Katie Belle Zachary Cooper in Whiteville, TN. He lived most of his life in Whiteville and married Rose Marie White, who survives, January 16, 1948. He served in the United States Navy as a Pacific Theater Seaman First Class during World War II. He worked as a general building contractor and served as the mayor of Whiteville for 16 years. He was a member of the VFW and the Southwest Tennessee Development District in Jackson as well as a former member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and Shriners. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Whiteville where he served on the finance committee, as a Sunday School teacher and a trustee.In addition to his wife, he leaves as survivors a daughter, Deborah Cooper Hardin and husband Marbry of Jackson; a son, Julian Anthony “Tony” Cooper and wife Charla of Bolivar; and two grandchildren, John Duncan Cooper and Sara Frances Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alex Zachary Cooper. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Whiteville at 219 East Main Street, Whiteville, TN 38075.
