Edith Burgess Camburn, 86, of Memphis, died Thursday morning, June 15, 2006 at the Memphis Jewish Home.
Born to the late Lebie David Burgess and Myrtle Rebecca Watkins Burgess on April 15, 1920, she was a 51 year resident of Memphis and a native of Walnut, MS. Widowed by her husband of 44 years, Leslie Eugene Camburn, in July of 1983, she was a member of the Union Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis, a member of the FTD Association, Woodmen of the World, and the Women’s Missionary Union. She was employed by Holley's Florist as a bookkeeper for 42 years.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Lane Townsend officiating. Burial was at Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery near Walnut, MS.
Survivors include her three daughters, Dot Alexander of Cordova, Shirley Porter of Collierville and Janice Townsend of Kosciusko, MS; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by their two sons, Wayne and Ken Camburn and her brother, Edwin Burgess. Memorials may be sent to the Memphis Jewish Home or to Union Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis.
