Judy Lee Delashmit Russell

Judy Lee Delashmit Russell, 69, of Seymour, TN, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was a retired educator, teaching college at the University of Memphis and Southwest Community College and high school at Raleigh Egypt, Kingsbury, Desoto Central, and Southaven High Schools. She enjoyed teaching the students math classes at both high school and college levels in both Memphis, TN, and Southaven, MS.

She was born Monday, March 9, 1953, in Memphis, daughter of the late Walter Howard Delashmit, Sr. and the late Gertrude Marie Scott Delashmit. Judy grew up in Millington; she then lived in Bartlett, TN for 43 years, prior to moving to Seymour about 4 years ago. She was a 1971 graduate of Millington Central High School and a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, receiving her Master's Degree in math at the University of Memphis.

She married Roy Wayne Russell on April 16, 1976, in Bartlett. Judy generally just enjoyed living life as a devoted wife, mother to her three children, and grandmother to five. She was called “Meme” by her grandchildren who always put a smile on her face and love in her heart. Judy was a Baptist in faith.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Wayne Russell of Seymour, TN; two sons, Rusty Russell (Deidre) of Fletcher, NC and Dustin Russell of Whiteville, TN; a sister, Nancy Wright (James) of Nesbit, MS; a brother, Robert Delashmit (Joanna) of Southaven, MS; a son-in-law, Jeff Crosby of Hernando, MS; and her grandchildren, Tristan Roy Crosby, Elina Marie Russell, Juliana Rose Russell, Peyton Reece Coolbaugh, and Cerulean Sky Coolbaugh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Marie Delashmit and Carolyn Rust; a brother, Walter Delashmit, Jr.; and, a daughter, Adrienne Marie Crosby.
