Juanita Basey Alexander

July 13, 1926 — February 26, 2016

Alexander, Juanita Gaston Basey

Age 89, died February 26, 2016. Born in Savannah, Tennessee, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Edwin Reece Alexander, Sr., who died in 2005; her parents, Gaston Worley Basey and Bessie Pauline Hilton Basey. She is survived by her son, Edwin Reece Alexander, Jr., and grandson, Edwin Reece Alexander, III, and granddaughter, Ann Marie Alexander Lockard, and her great-grandchildren, Austin Tyler Alexander, Lana Marie Alexander, and Elizabeth Ashley Lockard.

She attended college with her husband for two years in Arkansas where he pastored a small church. They returned to Tennessee where he finished at Union University and they went to Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She served faithfully alongside her husband in the various places of ministry that included pastorates and denominational work mostly in Tennessee. They served in Fayetteville, Franklin, Huntingdon, and Trenton. They returned to Memphis, Tennessee after spending about two years in Oxford, Mississippi. Then held pastorates in Rutherford, Springfield, and then retired to their accessorial home in Savannah, Tennessee. They served in denominational work for several years with the churches in that area and finally retired while serving the Mount Zion Baptist Church.

She was a great asset to her husband and their ministry and was a blessing to everybody that their lives touched. In addition to her tireless work in helping her husband with his work, she found time to touch young people through being a substitute teacher in the various school systems in the communities in which they lived. She was also involved in denominational training and served with the Tennessee Baptist Convention as a conference presenter in the Church Training Division. This section had youth training camps in the summer and she was one of the counselors.

"Well done thou good and faithful servant," could be said of her and her work here on earth. She has left us for her heavenly home to be reunited with those who have gone before her.
