Services for Joyce Ann Wilkerson, age 69, of Waynesboro, TN will be Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Waynesboro with Joey Franks officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens of Wayne County, Waynesboro, with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Ronny Cornelison, Chuck Matheny, Jason Cornelison, Austin Matheny, Joe Matheny, Rick Rice.
She was born October 14, 1940 at Martin's Mills, TN and died June 26, 2010 at Athens Limestone County Hospital in Athens, AL and was preceded in death by her parents, John Andrew Wilkerson and Patience Carrie Warren Wilkerson, and a brother Joe Lynn Wilkerson.
She is survived by a brother, James Daniel Wilkerson (Jane) of Huntsville, AL; nephew, John Sims Wilkerson (Brenda), five nieces: Joni Lynn Cornelison (Ronny); Regina Matheny (Chuck); Terry Smith (Mike); Cindy Evans; Connie Hancock (Billy); sister-in-law, Gennie Holman (Walt), sixteen great-nieces and nephews, and special friends.
She retired this year from the Wayne County School System after have taught for fifty years. Her first few years were at Pinhook School and remainder at Waynesboro. Wayne County High School had been a major part of her life for the for the past 40 years. She was a faithful member of Leatherwood Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure, American Cancer Society, or LIPS Local Organization.
