Joyce Mitchell, a cherished soul born on May 24, 1949, in the Leapwood Community of McNairy County, TN, the beloved daughter of the late Joel Carl (J.C.) and Hermie Virginia Weeks Finley. Her journey of life was beautifully intertwined with love and devotion, particularly highlighted by her marriage to Robert Franklin Mitchell on May 10, 1969, a bond that flourished for nearly 56 wonderful years.
Joyce's passion for education was evident during her seven years of teaching at Pine Hill Christian School, where she inspired countless students with her wisdom and kindness. A gifted writer, she shared her heartfelt expressions through her published devotional book, "Morning Dew," touching many lives with her words and also enjoyed writing poetry.
Beyond her roles as a teacher and writer, Joyce was known for her exceptional cooking and her talent as a seamstress. As the oldest sister, she embraced her role with grace, lovingly serving as a second mother to her younger siblings, providing support and guidance throughout their lives.
She was a devoted member of the Bible Holiness Church in Madison, TN, Joyce was a beacon of faithfulness and dedication to serving the Lord..
Mrs. Mitchell departed this life on March 20, 2025, in Cedar Hill, Tennessee, at the age of 75. She leaves behind her loving husband, Robert Franklin Mitchell; three sisters, Marcia Carlson and husband Ronald, Tarecia Shelton, Rhonda Sisk and husband Ricky; two brothers, Dennis Dale Finley and wife Sheryl, Jeffery Gene Finley and wife Carolyn; an uncle, Mike Finley and his wife Jackie, an aunt, Brenda Pickens; and a host of extended family and friends who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by three brothers, Harvey Bryce, Donald Ray, and Junior Finley.
Joyce Mitchell's legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched, a testament to a life fully lived in love and service. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry her memory forward.
