Joyce Ross Ayers, 86, of Bolivar, died Saturday night, January 6, 2007 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The widow of Thomas J. D. Ayers, who died in 2002, she was a retired school teacher at Beirbaum Elementary in St. Louis. She was born February 22, 1920, in Hornsby, daughter of the late Coleman Burnside Ross and Julia Shearon Ross and lived in St. Louis prior to moving back here 18 years ago. She graduated Bolivar Central High School in 1938 and attended Lambuth and Harris-Stowe College, receiving her MA degree from Webster University in St. Louis. She played basketball in high school and Lambuth and continued until just recently. She was a member of Bolivar First United Methodist Church and Mellow Memorial Methodist in St. Louis.
Survivors include a son, Timothy Ross Ayers of St. Louis; a sister, Jean Deming and brother, Donald Ross, both of Henderson; four grandchildren, Kara Joyce Kopplin, Timothy Ross Ayers, Jr., Angelina Ross Ayers and Nathanuel Ross Ayers; two great grandchildren, Jordan Ross Ayers and Page Ross Ayers. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Kopplin and a sister, Jimmy Dill.
