Joy Powers
was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 3, 1922 the daughter of the late Erhardt Bonifacius and Florence Jenny Stroebel Handwerker.
On February 23, 1942 she was united in marriage to Claude Robert Powers, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1994. Mrs. Powers worked for Powers Generator and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Grand Instructor. Mrs. Powers was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
She departed this life on November 9, 2006 at Hardin Home Nursing Home in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 6 days.
Mrs. Powers is survived by 2 daughters: Lorraine Hosea of Jackson, Tennessee and Amy Grisham of Adamsville, Tennessee; 3 sons: Johnny Powers of Savannah, Tennessee, Jimmy Powers of Cypress Inn, Tennessee and Anthony Powers of Crump, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudia Edna Barham; a son, Claude Michael Powers; 2 grandchildren: Eric Barham and Justin McBroom; 4 sisters: Elaine LaCroix, Josie Louise Kelly, Tilly Bridgewater and
Wessie Steed; and 2 brothers: George Handwerker and Stroebel Handwerker.
