Josie Ann Carothers was born June 27, 1951 in Selmer, Tenn., the daughter of the late Kermit and Mary Thelda Flatt Carothers.
She was united in marriage to Dennis Neal Plunk on December 14, 1973.
Mrs. Plunk was a faithful and active member of the church of Christ in Bethel Springs. She demonstrated the love of the Lord by serving her family, friends, and the community around her. She worked as a hair stylist in McNairy county for over forty years. Through her work she became a faithful, listening friend to so many in this community. She possessed a beautiful singing voice. It was a joy to hear her sing in worship, in the car, or in the living room with her brothers. She loved to travel to the Great Smokey Mountains with her closest friends, and always returned with hilarious stories. She was a wonderful and dear mother, and she always put the care of her children above everything. That is, until she became Gran. She has left behind a collection of grandkids’ artwork that is unsurpassed, and she imprinted their little hearts forever with her pride in them. Josie was magnetic because she made people feel good and important and loved. It was her gift, and she shared it well.
Mrs. Plunk departed this life on January 13, 2013 at her home in Bethel Springs, Tenn. at the age of 61 Years, 6 Months, 17 Days.
She is survived by her husband Dennis Neal Plunk of Bethel Springs; her daughter, Amy Leah Smith and husband Micah Perry of Bethel Springs; her son, Philip Reid Plunk and wife BreAnn Louise of Henderson; four grandchildren, Josie Ella, Jonah Elliott, and Lydia Jane Smith, and Owen Reid Plunk; five brothers, Jim Carothers and wife Wanda of Oak Ridge; Tim Carothers and wife Teresa of Adamsville; Paul Carothers and wife Tina of Grant, Ala.; Morris Carothers and wife Cathy of Adamsville; Dell Carothers of Charleston, S.C.; an aunt, Dorothy Newman of Adamsville; and lifelong friend, Phyllis Peterson of Selmer.
