Joseph James Dowdy

Funeral services for J. James Dowdy, age 87, of Clifton, TN will be
3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Clifton United Methodist Church with Don Spencer officiating. Pallbearers are members of the church. Burial will follow in Clifton Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge.
Mr. Dowdy, a lifelong resident of Clifton, died suddenly on Thursday, August 3, 2006, at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was the youngest of 12 children, the son of the late Nathan T. Dowdy and Rosa Lee Boggs Dowdy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sisk Dowdy and a grandson, Troy Edward Daugherty. Mr. Dowdy was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force where he received numerous awards. He was a retired office manager for Hassell Lumber Co. and Hassell and Dowdy Sand and Gravel Co. both of Clifton. Mr. Dowdy was a member of Clifton United Methodist Church.
He is survived by daughters, Janet D. Daugherty and husband Carl of Fairview, and Beverly Jo Dowdy of Nashville; grandson, Thomas J. Daugherty and wife Kim, great-grandchildren, Austin, Aubrey, Joseph, and Alec, all of Fairview; and a sister, Nelle Roberts of Clifton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Bruce Richards and Dr. Tom Johnston for their outstanding medical care over the years and to Mrs. Ledeana Allen for her excellent home care.
