Jon Samuel Pontius, 68, of Saulsbury, died Monday morning, November 14, 2005 at his home.
The husband of Kavon Butler Pontius, who survives, he was a metallurgist with Park Chemical in Detroit, Mich. and more recently, a carpenter who instructed at Corrections Corporation of America. Mr. Pontius was born August 21, 1937 in Leo, Ind., son of the late Forrest Malcome Pontius and Althea Irene DePew Pontius and lived in Champaign, Ill. for 10 years before making his home in Saulsbury 7 years ago. He was a member of Bolivar First United Methodist Church.
Services were 11 am Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Bolivar First United Methodist Church with Tim Carpenter officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
In addition to his wife, whom he married April 7, 1984, he is survived by three daughters, Cindy Pontius Legg of East Point, KY; Dianna Pontius Hurst of Avilla, IN and Katie Pontius Dwyer of Ft. Wayne, IN; three sons, Roderick James Pontius of Sarasota, FL, Charles Edward Haywood, III of Saulsbury and Steven Andrew Haywood of San Diego, CA; one brother, Don Warren Pontius of Melbourne, FL; one sister, Willadean Pontius Hall of Plainfield, IN; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evlyn Pontius Gloyd.
