Johnny James Johnson was born on September 4, 1944 in Lutts, Tennessee, the son of the late Walker and Margaret Bratton Johnson. On January 29, 1965, he was united in marriage to Betty Ruth McGee, who survives. Johnny departed this life on April 27, 2019, at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 23 days.
Johnny Johnson was a great man and had many passions. He first loved Jesus and from early on took responsibility for caring for Johnson Chapel. He thoroughly enjoyed studying and discussing God's word. Johnny had a large family and greatly enjoyed spending time with all of his loved ones. Johnny was also talented as a musician. He loved playing guitar and singing at church. Also, he was always there to help people who needed help fixing things. He relished spending time in his shop tinkering away at different things. Finally, he adored the outdoors. Whether he was grardening or just sitting under a pecan tree, he loved being in God's creation.
In addition to his wife, Betty, of 54 years, Johnny is survived by his daughters, Renay Hollander and husband Greg, Tammy Gross and husband Jeff, Madonna Newborn and husband Tim, and Misty Brewer and husband Patrick, all of Lutts, Tennessee; sisters, Beatrice Potter and husband Kenneth of Nashville, Tennessee and Janice Balentine and husband Edwin of Cypress Inn, Tennessee; brother, Robert Johnson and wife Margaret of Lutts, Tennessee; grandchildren, Nathan Hollander and wife Alicia, Bethany Webb and husband Jonathan, Lindsey Barrier and husband Brennan, Heather Cantrell and husband Keith, Hannah Hollander, Quentin Gross and wife Dega, Colton Gross, Lacey Gross, Rachel Gross, Lena Stone and husband Cory, Miranda Newborn, Mandy Brewer, and Ellie Brewer; great grandchildren, Shelby Hollander, Allie Hollander, Remington Hollander, Sarah Webb, Chelsea Barrier, Paityn Barrier, Ryleigh Gross, and Charlie Gross.
Along with his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise White, Geneva English, Gloria Fisher, and Mary Walker Martin; and brothers, William Johnson and Jerry Johnson.
