Mr. Johnny Earl Harbin of Whiteville departed this life at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 19 days Friday morning, February 8, 2013 at NHC Healthcare in Somerville.
Mr. Harbin was born in Middleton June 20, 1935 to the late Johnny Hawkins and Remer Ebenezer McKee Harbin. In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Navy and on February 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn D. Harbin, who survives. He served in Vietnam and France, earning a National Defense Service Medal, and retired in January of 1973 as a Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement from the military, he worked as a mechanic, was a member of the VFW and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Bolivar.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debra J. Ridley and husband Rex of Bartlett; a son, Robert Harbin and wife Deni of Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Neola Sutton of Grand Junction and Sue Hodge of Hornsby; a brother, Terry Wayne Harbin of Bolivar; eight grandchildren, Priscilla Hunsucker, Autumn Ridley, Caleb Harbin, Hannah Jacobson, Jared Harbin and Sarah Harbin, Jessica and Julie Ridley; and four step-grandchildren, Rachel Hunter, Emma Hunter, Mason Hunter and Garrett Hunter.
Those who preceded him in death include his parents and two sisters, Sadie Marie Landreth and Jean Harbin Haire.
