John Winfred Wright, 82, of Whiteville, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
The husband of Burnell Partridge Wright, who survives, he owned Wright Brothers Grocery from 1946-82 and was a rural U.S. mail carrier. Mr. Wright was born February 20, 1923, son of the late John Franklin Wright and Susie McCarley Wright, lived most of his life in Whiteville and was an avid golfer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII, was a former member of the city council and Lions Club and former Water Commissioner in Whiteville. Mr. Wright was a deacon and treasurer at Whiteville First Baptist Church for many years.
Services were 2 PM Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Bill Sorrell and H.K. Sorrell officiating. Burial was in Melrose Cemetery near Whiteville.
In addition to his wife, whom he married March 16, 1952, survivors include one daughter, Wendy Mills and her husband, Lynn; sister, Doris Norment and granddaughter, Caroline Mills, all of Whiteville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Quinton Wright.
