John David Whaley, age 61, of Cordova, TN, died Friday, April 30, 2010, after a valiant 4 month battle with leukemia.
He was born on January 16, 1949, at Ford Clinic in Brownfield, MS, to the late John and Melba Cornelius Whaley of Middleton, TN. He was preceded in death by his brother William "Billy" Whaley of Memphis, TN and a half-brother and his wife, Gene & Gerry Whaley of Linden, TN. Surviving siblings are Roy (Carrie) Whaley of Jackson, TN and half sisters, Dorothy (Red) Cornelius of Middleton and Mary Frances Harrell of Hernando, MS.
David graduated from Middleton High School in 1967 and earned a BBA in Accounting from the University of Memphis in 1971. He was a captain in the United States Air Force with assignments at Holliman AFB, NM and Aviano AFB, Italy. During his career as a CPA/Controller, he worked for Sanders, Kinser & Zoccola, Holiday Inns, Farm Press Publications and World Color. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men's Club and the Rotary Club of Clarksdale, MS.
David was married 41 years to Wanda Bishop Whaley. Their children are Amy Whaley (Greg Schrader) of Marietta, GA; Eric (Karen) Whaley of Memphis; and Jason (Adrienne) Whaley of Germantown, TN, They have six grandchildren: Caneel and Vivienne Van Nostrand and Josh Schrader; Luke, Will and Jack Whaley.
