John William Taylor, 81, of Adamsville, Tennessee died Wednesday, January 16, 2013. He was born on October 15, 1931 in Brownsville, Tennessee, the son of the late Lucille Morris Taylor and Samuel Hervey Taylor.
Mr. Taylor graduated from Adamsville High School in 1949. He was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict where he was part of the 1st Cavalry Division, 8th Cavalry Regiment in Hokkaido, Japan. Upon discharge, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and Knoxville where he received a degree in Civil Engineering in 1958. He worked at the Tennessee Highway Department, M.W. Kellogg Co. during the construction of the Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Co. at Counce, TN, and in 1963 began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Memphis District where he worked until his retirement as Chief of River Operations in 1989. He was a longtime member of the Longstreet United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie Aycock Taylor, whom he married in 1963; his two sons, John Keith Taylor of Chattanooga and William Todd Taylor (Rachele) of Corinth, MS; three grandchildren, Samuel Taylor, Julia Taylor and Olivia Taylor, and one step-grandson, Ashton Lance.
Mr. Taylor was preceded by his brother, Samuel Morris Taylor.
