John Gilbert Sells

June 4, 1919 — February 7, 2007

He was born and reared in Chester County, the Friendship Community, the son of the late John Clint and Annie Mitchell Sells. He attended Chester County Schools, graduated Pinson High School and attended Memphis State University. He was married in 1939 to Marie Shelton. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served state side, at Brown Wood, Texas (Camp Bowie). He served in the 752nd field artillery battalion with Patton’s 3rd Army that served all across Europe. He was injured by a shell explosion and honorably discharged as a Technician Fourth Grade in January 1945. He was stationed with the Dept. of Defense (Civil Service) in Oak Ridge in the enriching of Uranium 258. After Oak Ridge he served at the Millington Naval Base with the 445th troupe carried group, the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. After retiring from the Civil Service they returned to Chester County, the Friendship Community and spent the winters in Arcadia, FL. After 2002 they lived all the year in Chester County. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.



John G. Sells leaves an emptiness in his family, but he also leaves decades of precious memories. He truly loved the Lord and his fellow man. He was a nurturer and encourager to people of all ages and was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but we will celebrate the life of John G., one of God’s special angels on earth.



He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Marie Shelton Sells in February 2006.



He is survived by two sons Donnie Sells and wife Harriett of Jackson and Ronnie Sells and wife Eulena of Henderson; six grandchildren, Chris Sells, Garrick Sells, Amy Sells, David Sells, Jeremy Sells and Ashley Sells; two great grandchildren, Bethany Butler and Abbie Sells; and a brother Shelbin Sells of Henderson.
