John Marshall Payne, Jr. was born August 13, 1932 in Donna, TX the son of the late John Marshall Payne, Sr. and Armanda Belle Bond Payne.
Mr. Payne retired from the United States Navy after 20 years and two wars, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He served aboard the U.S.S. Blandy, U.S.S. Blue Back, and U.S.S. Missouri battleships. He was proud to have served his country and loved sharing his military stories. He was a member of VFW Post #3962 in Corinth, MS.
After retirement from the military, he went to work at Townhouse Mobile Homes in Selmer for several years then worked and retired for the second time from Dement Construction Company building bridges. He believed in keeping his word, caring for others before self and loved his daughter whom he affectionately called his "guardian angel." He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, sitting outside and watching westerns.
Mr. Payne departed this life on September 25, 2019 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 1 Month, 12 Days. He is survived by a daughter, Marsha Payne of Selmer, TN; a sister, Betty Brown of Texas; a granddaughter, Amanda Wallis of Selmer, TN; four great grandchildren, Savannah Lee Barnes, Joseph Tyler Wallis, Isabella Reign Wallis, and Aubree Sky Wallis; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by a son, John Marshall Payne III; a brother, Robert Payne.
